"This song was inspired by a true story: when I was staying in my home village in Malawi, an old lady who used to visit me and who always asked for help, told me that she was staying alone. I was concerned. No one to care for her and stay with her at home. Where are your children? I asked - and she answered that she had three adult children, one being a doctor and the other two also educated and staying in Blantyre city. Why do you come and ask for help, since you have well-to-do children? I asked. She started crying. My children don’t come and see me because they think I am a witch and I will bring them bad luck, she said.
It hurt me to hear this, as a woman. That her children abandoned her like that. How it feels to be isolated by your own children. Abandoning your own mother back in the village.
This song’s message is: 'Always remember where you’re coming from. Make sure your mother is fine. Go back home. Be a responsible person. Don’t forget where you are coming from. Because that is who you are'."
The song was produced by Harlan Steinberger and recorded at Hen House Studios in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California.
